Use SMS to help people know what action they
can take to limit global warming.

“You are absolutely correct (not that people are stupid) but yes, we all do need to be reminded (and then reminded again) regarding how we can minimize our impact on the environment. And there are many easy things to do and if we all did the easy stuff I truly believe it will make a difference. Using short emails is a good concept here. I’ve also seen some ‘green’websites that you can subscribe to a get a daily reminder. We are doing some of that internally a gentle reminder to nudge folks in the right direction.”

Matt and Mark, both 19, England
Creating a smart house to eliminate waste.

“The concept of a cell station in ones home is real — it’s called a Femto cell. Your concepts are very close — and the use of a cell phone to detect presence and control heating/cooling/appliance in ones home will have significant environmental impact. Now the intelligent refrigerator — you got me on that. Can we get that to make sure folks finish the opened bottle of milk before opening another? I need that in my house!”

The “Green” Remote
Tobias, 17 and Jonatan, 19, Sweden
An easy way to save power and stay in bed.
format: PowerPoint Document
“I think we have all wished at some point for that universal green remote! I know in my house there are many times we have all looked at each other seeing who’ll get up to turn of the lights. There is a certain person in my family that tends to forget more often than others (I’m sworn to secrecy — though she is away at school right now). You should know also that your concept is not that far off – and taking a step ahead — there is work underway with sensors that detect presence, which not only turn lights on/off – but also perform additional functions. Consider controlling the heating/cooling in ones home, monitoring ones health, adjusting appliances – hey – even feeding pets. Now – can you send one of those remotes to my daughter? (So much for secrecy).”
