What is The Lab at Alcatel-Lucent?

The Lab is an innovative primary research program focused on soliciting the end-user experiences and preferences from the highly coveted teen and young adult market. Lab Members are made up of users from around the world and range in age from pre-teen to young adult. Our ongoing research looks to understand how users around the world experience entertainment across all the screens they use (e.g., phones, televisions, computers, etc.).

Frequently Asked Questions

This information is really interesting and I need to share it with my company. How can I arrange to have someone present the findings to my team?
Our customers have found this information very interesting and we have facilitated many lively conversations about the user experience, consumers and the role of technology. We are happy to meet with your team and discuss the results. To set up a meeting, please contact us.

How does the program work?
The team is given regular assignments – for example, downloading games on their mobile phone – and then they are asked about their experience. The results are published here each month. See “The Research” to learn more.

I have a question for the panel; can I ask the whole team or a specific team member a question?
Yes. The Lab Members are available to answer research-related questions. We are also interested in your research ideas. Please email your question or ideas to us along with your contact information and we will do our best to get an answer back to you.

Why are you doing a research project with teens and young adults?
Just beginning to enter the workplace, The Millennial Generation was born between 1977 and 1998. The 75 million members of this generation display a great deal of self-confidence. As you might expect, this group is technically literate like no one else. Technology has always been part of their lives, whether it's computers and the Internet or cell phones and text pagers. In addition, this generation is responsible for how billions of dollars are spent every year. We believe understanding the personal technology experience of this generation will help us build better products and allow us to help our customers develop better services.

How did you recruit The Lab members? Do you need new members?
We selectively invite members from around the world as we work to get a balance based on age, gender, geographic location and service providers. All our members need to speak and write English and be willing to complete assignments on time in a thoughtful manner. We reimburse most out of pocket expenses. If you know someone interested in being a Lab member, please contact us.

How often should I check back for new results?
Every six to eight weeks, The Lab members receive a new assignment. We regularly publish the results of those studies on this website here.
